ERIE - Warren gave Mercyhurst Prep a strong challenge, but the Lakers ultimately ended the evening with a sweep of the Dragons in a Region 3 makeup meet held Tuesday at Penn State Behrend.
The Warren boys suffered a 99-75 setback with the girls coming even closer to the victory with a 96-81 loss. Warren's boys (10-5) and girls (8-7) finish off the regular season Thursday with a 6:30 p.m. home meet against Cathedral Prep (boys) and Villa Maria (girls).
In addition, divers Drew Huey, Allie Sedon and Christine Kuzminski will take part in the District 10 Class AAA Diving Championships scheduled for Friday at Penn State Behrend.
On Tuesday, the Warren swimmers swam right along with some of the best talent in District 10. The boys ended the day with a pair of victories, including Huey in the diving competition and the 200 free relay team of Clark Eason, Logan Gearhart, Bennett Steber and Cameron Daniels.
According to Warren assistant coach Brian Collins, Gearhart added a strong swim in the boys 200 free, swimming to a second-place finish in a personal best time of 1:51.54. Collins also praised the efforts of all three 50 free competitors - Daniels, Eason and Sean McGuinness.
In the girls competition, the Lady Dragons battled hard and earned a total of two first-place finishers. Both of those came from standout Elin Smith.
