Both Eisenhower basketball teams, and Warren's girls basketball team, have District 10 playoff games scheduled for later this week.
With District 10 qualifying three teams from the boys' District 10 Class A playoffs to states, there is a six-team bracket. Kennedy Catholic is the Region 1 champion in an all-Class A region, so it gets a bye at 15-5 overall. Cochranton (14-8) gets the other bye as the top Class A team out of Region 3.
Eisenhower's boys team (8-13) will open against Commodore Perry (5-17), which was in fourth place at 1-7 in the all-Class A Region 1, at 8 p.m. Friday at Oil City High School. The winner will face Cochranton in the semifinals.
Eisenhower has come on of late with three straight wins and Commodore Perry lost to 3-17 Youngsville by 19 points early in the season. A win would guarantee Ike at least a shot at states with a finals appearance or in the third-place game.
The Lady Knights (10-12) made the playoffs as the second Class A seed out of a Class A, AA and AAA Region 3. Eisenhower's girls team will also play Commodore Perry High School (10-12), tied for third in the all-Class A Region 1, at 4 p.m. Saturday at Oil City High School.
The winner will meet Region 1 champion Kennedy Catholic (20-2), which has a quarterfinal round bye, in the semifinal round. The top two teams advance to the PIAA Tournament out of Class A girls.
Like the Class A boys, the Class AAA girls bracket will have three teams advance to states. But it won't be easy.
Warren (15-6), and the third seed out of Region 6, will meet Region 5 second seed Hickory (19-3) at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Kennedy Catholic High School. Warren has been up and down this season, but gets another crack at the team it lost to in overtime in last year's D-10 Class AAA playoffs. Hickory was the D-10 runner-up a year ago, losing to region-rival Franklin in the championship game. The winner likely gets last year's District 10 Class AA champion Villa Maria (20-2) in the semifinals, barring a quarterfinals upset by Grove City (13-9).
