Varsity slate

Here is the varsity slate of action for county winter sports teams for Friday, Feb. 15 through Thursday, Feb. 21:

Tournament champions
The Beaty seventh-grade boys basketball team recently captured the tournament title during an event held Saturday in Kane. The Dragons were victorious in the championship game of the tournament, defeating Fretz Middle School in the opener and the Saint Marys Cavs in the finals. Warren won the title game by four points, clinching the victory on a late Adam Irwin free throw. Team members include, front row, from left, Irwin, Andrew Davidson, Rylan Fitzgerald and Ryan Munksgard and, back row, Colby Johnson, Adam Munksgard, Nate Betts, Mitchell Bryant and Kohl Nosel. Johnson and Nosel were named to the all-tournament team and Nosel was the winner of the knockout contest held at halftime.

Wrestling: Warren at District 10 Class AAA Championships, at Central Tech (Erie), 5 p.m.

College news

Warren Area High School graduate and Pitt-Bradford men's basketball player Tyler Fantaskey scored three points for the Panthers during a 64-63 victory over Medaille on Wednesday. Fantaskey and the Panthers (12-12) close out the regular season Saturday, hosting Franciscan.

Jr. high hoops

Tidioute Charter fell to North Clarion, 51-8, on Thursday. Connor Coughlin and Darren Geiger four points each for Tidioute Charter.

Tidioute lost to Youngsville, 40-19. For Tidioute, Coughlin scored three points, Geiger eight, Grady Wilkes-Shew two, Jeff Richard four, Ricky McAfoose two.

Youth mat

Russell's Gannon Jaquay and Logan Jaquay competed for North East's Ragin' Raisins Wrestling Club Saturday at the Top 100 Franklin Regional Tournament in Murraysville. The tournament featured over 300 wrestlers from Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Logan Jaquay competed in the 9-10 year-old, 65-pound weight class while Gannon Jaquay competed in the 7-8 year-old, 65-pound weight class.

Postponed

The Warren at Mercyhurst Prep boys and girls swim meets originally scheduled for Thursday were postponed because of pool problems at Mercyhurst Prep. No make-up date has been announced.

Indoor soccer

Warren and Eisenhower battled to a 4-4 tie in Lakewood Family YMCA Indoor Soccer League junior varsity girls action on Tuesday.

Eisenhower had a pair of goals from TerryLee Talasky and one each from Krysten Sisson and Tiffany Work. Sisson, Hayleigh Hishman and Joni Zortman contributed assists while Hishman and Lindsey McMillen split time in goal.
