Former Sheffield High School state champion track standout Kalil Slaughter qualified for the Division III Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships recently in the 60-meter dash at the Mount Union Invitational in Alliance Ohio.
Slaughter, a freshman at Penn State Behrend in Erie, finished third out of 40 competitors in 7.10 seconds, and qualified for the ECAC meet in New York City. He also placed seventh in the long jump.

Senior swimmer
Warren County YMCA’s Dolphins swim team, and head coach Chris Snyder, right, honored Senior division swimmer Ellis Beardsley in her last home meet on Saturday at the Warren County YMCA. YMCA post-season section competition will be held on Saturday in Olean, N.Y. YMCA districts is March 8-10 in Youngstown, Ohio.
Slaughter also finished fourth out of 43 at the invitational in the 200 in 23.07 seconds.
At the Cornell Invitational on Saturday, in Ithaca, N.Y., Slaughter, battling the flu, was eighth out of 29 in the 60-meter dash in 7.12 seconds, and eighth out of 33 in the 200 in 22.95 seconds.

Warren Area High School graduate Tyler Fantaskey scored 10 points for Pitt-Bradford's men's college basketball team in a 100-80 win over D'Youville on Monday in Bradford.
Pitt-Bradford is 11-12 overall and 6-10 in the Division III Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
Fantaskey has 110 points and 67 rebounds on the season (in 23 games played with 13 starts), with two games left before the AMCC Tournament.
Out of area
Former Warren Area High School track and field standout Summer Walter recently signed a letter of intent to attend Division I James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., on an athletic scholarship.
At Bayside High School in Virginia, Walter recently earned seven indoor track and field medals at the Beach District championships in the 55-meter hurdles, 500, high jump, long jump, triple jump, pole vault and shot put, and qualified for regional competition in all seven and state competition already in two.
She holds the school record in the 400-meter run and is tied for the school record in the pole vault.
