Chester H. Kibbey Jr., 81, of Rt. 27, Pittsfield, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at UPMC Hamot in Erie.
He was born September 5, 1931 in Corry, a son to the late Chester and Velma Lee Kibbey Sr. Chet started working as a lumber contractor, using horses to pull the logs from the woods until machinery became available. He then owned and operated Brokenstraw Gravel Co. for 35 years from 1968 until 2003. He was a charter member of the Upper Allegheny Muzzleloaders Club, served on the Fair Board and had worked as Pittsfield Twp. Supervisor. Chet enjoyed operating his bulldozer, woodworking and spending time with his family and many friends.
Chet is survived by his children, Oran (Susan Kushner) Kibbey, Barry (Susan R.) Kibbey and Bart (Frances) Kibbey, all of Pittsfield, a sister Jean Alexander also of Pittsfield, a brother Norman (Melanie) Kibbey of Grand Valley, an uncle Merle Kibbey of Pittsfield, 4 grandchildren; Zoe Kibbey, USN, of Seattle, Washington, Abraham Kibbey and Nicholas Kibbey, both of Pittsfield, and Zachary Kibbey of Huntington, Pa, his faithful companion Rosco, his cat Nicky, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Priscilla Kibbey, whom he married in December of 1953 in Salamanca, NY, and who died 3 weeks ago on January 15th, a daughter Lucinda Kibbey in 1991, and a brother Charles Kibbey.
Friends will be received on Friday, February 8th, from 37 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 N. Main St. in Youngsville and for 1 hour prior to a funeral service that will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Pittsfield Otterbein United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Davis, former pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in Riverside Cemetery.
