March for Life
Over 70 people from the Warren area Catholic Community attended the 2013 March for Life in Washington, D.C. Crowd estimates were put at approximately 500,000, the largest ever, who marched for life to the steps of the Supreme Court Building. Prior to the march two youth rallies took place as well as a Mass at the Basilica Shrine at the Immaculate Conception. Public meeting
The Revitalization of Youngsville organization announces a community-wide open meeting on Tues., Feb. 5, at 6:30 p.m. at Youngsville Borough Building, 40 Railroad Street in Youngsville for the purpose of determining the future of Youngsville's A-'Maize'-ing Corn Fest. R.O.Y. has organized and conducted Corn Fest for each of the past seven years, with varying degrees of success. But with Phase One of R.O.Y.'s revitalization of downtown Youngsville scheduled to begin in earnest over the next several months, and likely to be in full swing during August, serious discussions need to take place by residents of Youngsville about the 2013 Corn Fest. No subject having to do with Corn Fest will be off-limits, including whether or not to have 2013 Corn Fest. All residents of Youngsville Borough and Brokenstraw Township are invited to participate in this open meeting.

Saron Lenten
soup supper
A Lenten soup supper will be held every Tuesday during Lent at 5:45 p.m. at the Saron Lutheran Church in Youngsville. The Maundy Thursday tureen dinner will be held at 6:00 p.m. with a service to follow.
Lasagna dinner
On Sun., Feb. 10 the Garland Community Center at 204 Extension Road in Garland, will host a Lasagna Dinner from 1 p.m. until sold out. Dinner includes homemade lasagna, salad, dinner roll, beverage and homemade dessert for a $10.00 donation. Eat in or take out. Call 814-563-4374 for more information. Proceeds benefit the Garland Community House Association and Community Center.

An annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake supper will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Berea Lutheran Church.
Cabin Fever Corn
Hole Tournament
The YHS Softball Team will sponsor a Corn Hole Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 23, in the YHS gymnasium. Cost is $15 per team.
Registration begins at 11 a.m. and tournament begins at noon. You can also register prior to that day by contacting any YHS softball player or parent for an entry form. Any question please contact Ron Jameson at 730-1577.

Packets are available for the 2013-2014 Kindergarten registration at Youngsville Elementary Middle School. Completed packets can be returned on Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 9 to 11 a.m. or 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Leap for Love
Love INC of the Brokenstraw Valley will hold its first Leap for Love, Saturday, Feb. 9. Participants will be "Freezing for a Reason" as they LEAP (actually run) into the waters of the Brokenstraw Creek at Island Park located in Youngsville. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the LEAP will begin at 11 a.m. Food and hot drinks will be available. There is a $10 fee per Leaper and each participant must sign a waiver. Children under the age of 18 must have consent from a parent or guardian. Leapers will also be collecting pledges with a goal of $100 per participant. All proceeds will benefit Love INC of the Brokenstraw Valley. Bicentennial raffle
The Youngsville Bicentennial Committee is raffling off a Valentine's Day basket. The basket includes an overnight stay for a family of four at the Hampton Inn of Warren, use of the pool, a continental breakfast, and goodies to go along with the stay. The basket is in the window of the Youngsville Pharmacy and tickets are available at the borough office, the Youngsville Pharmacy, and Heaven Scent. The price of the tickets is 1 for $1.00, 3 for $2.00, and a sheet of ten for $5.00. All proceeds go to benefit the Bicentennial Celebration June 28, 29 and 30, 2013.
200 Years
Serving Christ
The Youngsville First United Methodist Church is holding a year-long celebration in honor of their "200 Years Serving Christ." The picture from 1828 is the first building in which members of that congregation met to worship. It was located on West Main Street, on the site of what is now the Saron Lutheran Church. Prior to that time, church-goers met along the banks of the Brokenstraw Creek. Sunday, February 3, District Superintendent Thomas Strandburg will deliver the sermon at 9 a.m., followed by a time of fellowship. To catch the spirit of times past, the congregation is participating in "renting pews" on various Sundays. Seating in the back pews will cost you $5, while a front row seat is free! The committee has also prepared mementos with scripture reminders to be presented to the congregation several times during the year. Throughout 2013 various musical and dramatic programs will be announced and open to the public. Everyone is welcome at any time. Morning Worship begins at 9 a.m. and Sunday School at 10:15 a.m.
WCCS national
testing results
Warren County Christian School conducts yearly national testing for each even numbered year class to measure the performance levels of its students. This year the national testing shifted from the Stanford Achievement Test, which measures Grade Equivalent, to Terra Nova 3 CTB McGraw-Hill testing uses Scale Scoring, which reflects a more accurate individual student result. On average the students placed in the 60 percentile of the students testing nationally, with several groups scoring well above the school average and that of the national mean average. The staff felt good about the results, especially since this was the first time in many years that the test was a timed specific test. Congratulations to the student body for another great year of learning.
