ERIE - Some of Eisenhower's hottest wrestlers ran into some of Seneca's hottest wrestlers on Wednesday, in a 42-19 Seneca win.
The match-ups of the night may have been Ike's Jake Johnson vs. Seneca's Trevor Beiter at 195 pounds, and Eisenhower's Jeb Fedorchuk vs. Seneca's Cyle Yaple at 120.
All four are ranked in the top five in District 10 in their respective weight classes, according to dtenwrestling.com, and Yaple and Fedorchuk went triple-overtime on Wednesday. Yaple - who picked up two region wins last year and entered the season approaching 100 career victories - pulled out a 5-3 decision on this night, as Seneca (9-7) took eight of the last nine weight classes for the region win. Seneca is 5-1 in Region 3, Eisenhower 3-3.
Eisenhower's only two wins on the mat were from Cade Hefferman, with a 7-0 decision at 182, and Dylan Raines, a major decision at heavyweight.
Beiter pinned Johnson late in the third period, and ended Johnson's string of 15 straight wins to start the season. Beiter was up 9-5 at that point.
