TITUSVILLE - Warren improved to 12-4 overall in dual matches, and 4-2 in Region 4, with a big 40-31 win at Titusville on Tuesday.
It started well and ended well for the Dragons.
Dan Henry earned a major decision at 195 pounds to start the match, which "was huge," said Warren coach Glenn Baldensperger, whose Dragons top Titusville, a District 10 qualifying team last year, a week after the Rockets (3-2 in region) edged Cathedral Prep on the mat.
To end the match, with Warren up 34-31, Chris McNeal earned a 40-second pin to seal the win.
Alex Streich continued his successful season with a 1-0 decision - on a second-period escape - at 220. Glyn Mahood pinned his opponent at 106 and, after three straight Titusville wins, D.J. Fehlman stopped the streak with a second-period pin over Dalton Burns, one of Titusville's top wrestlers. Fehlman, after a 126-pound Tool City Tournament title this weekend, is 20-0 after the pin at 132.
Warren took five of the last seven matches, including a decision by Jonah Hordusky at 138, and pins by Michael Card (145), Garrett Smead (152) and McNeal.
"With Mike Card and Garrett Smead coming up with falls, all we needed was a win (from McNeal)," said Baldensperger, who said the match was decided by bonus points.
Bailey Pratt, Gabe Irvine and Kyle Trout earned junior varsity wins before the match.
