Belt promotions
Several students of Johnson’s Black Belt Academy were recently promoted to new belt ranks after a two-hour test of skills, knowledge and physical stamina. Front row, from left, Jeff Anderson, 8th Degree Black Belt and Rick Johnson, 9th Degree Black Belt, tested and awarded the ranks. Those promoted include, back row, Alex Greene (Blue/Black Belt), Morgan Brown (Blue/Black belt), Grey Tucker (Green/Black Belt), Wyatt Tucker (Green/Black Belt) and Steven Downs (Yellow/Black Belt).

Wrestling: Sheffield at Redbank Valley Tournament, 9 a.m.
J.V. hoops
The Warren boys junior varsity basketball team defeated Nichols Academy (Buffalo, N.Y.), 62-47, Wednesday in the Olean JV Christmas Tournament at Olean High School. Ryan Gustafson led the winners with 27 points, Matt Hultquist added 10 points and Kyle Kulka seven as the Dragons built a 23-point first-half lead. Gustafson scored 21 of his 27 points in the first half with three-pointers and a perfect 6-of-6 performance from the free throw line.
The opening round of the tournament was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, Dec. 22, but was postponed. It is unknown whether the second day of the tournament will be held.

The Warren girls junior varsity basketball team fell to Jamestown (N.Y.), 46-34, in the opening round of the Olean JV Christmas Tournament Wednesday at Olean High School. The shorthanded Dragons had just six players available for the game and were led by the nine points of Lexie Ednie and Lizzie Marsh. Megan Smoulder finished with six points, Amy Castagnino five points, Kaitlin Sedon three points and Ashlee McClure two points.
The opening round of the tournament was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, December 22, but was postponed. It is unknown whether the second day of the tournament will be held.
Canceled
The Warren Snowball Tournament scheduled for this Saturday, Dec. 29, at Betts Park in Warren has been canceled. The event will not be made up.
New Year's shoot
The Celoron Rod and Gun Club will hosting its 14th Annual New Year's Day Shoot on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013. Shooters can participate in skeet, trap or both.
Prizes will be awarded and food will be available. Shooters can sign up between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. For information, contact Kevin Sturzenbecker at (716) 664-1721.
