It's tournament time for Warren County varsity basketball teams beginning Thursday.
Sheffield's and Youngsville's boys basketball teams will compete in the Sheffield Holiday Tournament on Thursday and Friday at Sheffield High School. In fact, Sheffield plays Youngsville there at 7:30 p.m.. The first game will be Kane vs. Cameron County at 6 p.m.
The consolation game is at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Sheffield High School, followed by a 3-point contest. The championship game will follow at 7:30 p.m. with one county school guaranteed to play for the tournament title.
Warren's boys basketball team also plays on Thursday at the St. Bonaventure Tournament, opening at 6 p.m. against Nichols Academy (Buffalo, N.Y.) at St. Bonaventure University. Olean (N.Y.) and Bradford will meet in the 7:30 p.m. nightcap. The consolation game is at 6 p.m. Friday with the championship game at 7:30 p.m.
Two county girls teams open tournament play on Thursday as the Warren Lady Dragons travel to Cranberry and the Youngsville Lady Eagles travel to Union City High School.
The unbeaten Lady Dragons open the tourney with Westinghouse (Pittsburgh) at 6 p.m. while tournament host Cranberry and Erie East play in the 7:30 p.m. contest. The losers of Thursday's games will play at 6 p.m. Friday in the consolation game while Thursday's winners will compete at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the championship game.
The Lady Eagles will have to wait until 7:30 p.m. to open with the host Bears at the Union City Tournament. Cochranton and Reynolds will play in Thursday's 6 p.m. game. Friday's championship game is set for 7:30 p.m. with the consolation game tipping off at 6 p.m.
The final two county teams to compete in Holiday tournament action will begin play on Friday as the Eisenhower boys travel to the Corry Christmas Tournament and Sheffield's girls team competes at the Otto-Eldred Tournament.
Just one week after a dramatic two-point loss to the Corry Beavers, Eisenhower will get its rematch with Corry at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Titusville and Union City will also compete in the tournament, beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday's consolation game will be played at 6 p.m. with the title game to follow at 7:30 p.m.
The Lady Wolverines will play host Otto-Eldred at 7:45 p.m. Friday at Otto-Eldred High School, while Kane and Oswayo Valley start in the other semifinal at 6:15 p.m. Saturday's consolation game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. there with the championship game tipping off at 5:30 p.m.
With Warren, Youngsville and Eisenhower at the Warren Wrestling Duals on Friday, Sheffield is at the Redbank Valley Wrestling Tournament, running Friday and Saturday.
