Zavinskis end work with Music in the Park

It's the end of an era.

At last week's meeting of Warren City Council, a copy of a letter was presented to council in which James and Frankie Zavinski announced they will be ending their regular involvement in the Music in the Park program.

"It is with a heavy heart that Jim and I have decided to end our weekly involvement in the Music in the Park program," the letter, addressed to Northwest Savings Bank, said. "We both wish we could continue for another 17 years, however our advancing years are beginning to take its toll on us."

Council member Dr. Howard Ferguson led council and the public in a round of applause for the Zavinskis' efforts.

"We're getting older and we, I think, only missed two performances in 17 years," council member James Zavinski said. "We would like to see it continue and would help anyone who came forward to take it over."

The letter went on to thank Northwest for its sponsorship of the program and to express hope for the future of Music in the Park.

"It has been truly enjoyable to have helped bring this program to the citizens of Warren," the letter said. "Jim and I hope that the program will continue to flourish under new, responsible leadership."

According to Zavinski, "We're optimistic someone, or some group, will come forward."
