Sheffield put itself back into the win column on Monday night, cruising to a dominant 57-35 victory against Austin at Sheffield High School.

The Wolverines (2-3) are one win shy of last year's win total.

After allowing the Panthers to score the opening bucket, the Wolverines rattled off seven straight points and never again saw their lead drop below five, while outscoring Austin in all four quarters.

Jen Isenberg goes all out to snatch a rebound during Sheffield’s Monday night game against Austin at Sheffield High School. Isenberg scored 26 points to lead the Wolverines to a 57-35 victory.

Jen Isenberg led the way for the Wolverines, scoring a game-high 26 points. Abby Labesky was the only other Sheffield player in double digits, finishing with 10 points.

Hannah Vile added seven points for the Wolverines while Tierra Hansen finished with six.

"We came out of the gate a little slow, and we had a lot of kids sick with the flu," Wolverines coach Jeff Labesky said after the victory. "Once we established the pace we started playing better. (Jen) Isenberg played big in stretches and (Abby) Labesky controller the flow. Overall, I'm pleased with how we played. We've gotta be more patient, but I'm very pleased with the offense."

The Wolverines also won the J.V. game, defeating the Panthers, 40-38. Mariah Fitzgerald led the way with 22 points.

Sheffield is back in action on Friday when they hose Smethport.

Warren 63, Strong Vincent 22

The Lady Dragons continued their hot start to the 2012-2013 season with a 63-22 win over Strong Vincent Monday night at Warren Area High School.

After a slow start for both teams, the Dragons exploded for 26 points in the second quarter as they improve to 4-0 on the year. Jaimie Eaton scored a game-high of 17, D.J. Hahn followed with 13, and Alexa Bupp added 12 points in the win.

The Colonels never scored more than six points in a quarter.

Despite the lopsided victory, Warren coach Lisa Ruhlman still sees room for improvement. "We need to get better at taking care of the ball," she said. "I thought we made too many unforced turnovers."

The Dragons will look to stay unbeaten, Thursday, when they travel to Erie to take on East in another non-region contest.

Warren cruised to a victory in the junior varsity game, downing the visitors by a score of 35-9. Mackenzie Boice led the Dragons with 12 points.

Conneaut 50, Eisenhower 19

LINESVILLE - Eisenhower lost its Region 3 opener on Monday, but it was a tough Region 3 opener.

The Knights traveled to Conneaut Area to play the only Class AAA team out of the predominantly Class A and AA region.

"We knew it was going to be a tough one, because they return four starters from Linesville last year, which was the region runner-up," said Logue, whose Knights - which are one of three Class A teams in the seven-team region - are 2-3 overall. "They are a very experienced team, a team that we anticipated wanted to get after us with their 1-2-2 trap. We had our problems and didn't take care of the basketball. The times where we handled their press, we didn't capitalize."

Alyssa Peterson led Eisenhower, which hosts Cambridge Springs in another region game on Thursday, with 13 points.
