In a little under two hours, the Youngsville boys basketball team erased the sour taste of nearly two years of losing basketball.
Broc Horn scored a career-high 29 points, Coll Dininny added 16 points and 13 rebounds, and the Eagles ended a 36-game losing streak with a dominant 72-53 victory over Commodore Perry Wednesday at Youngsville High School.
Youngsville's most recent victory, before Wednesday, came on Dec. 29, 2010, when it won a 61-54 decision over Kane in the Sheffield Sports Boosters Holiday Tournament.

Up strong
Youngsville’s Broc Horn, left, drives hard to the basket in front of a pair of Commodore Perry defenders during the Eagles’ 72-53 victory Wednesday at Youngsville High School. The Eagles ended a 36-game losing streak with the win and moved to 1-2 on the season.
"It feels really good to win again," said Horn. "It's been a while. Early on in the game, we were able to run the floor and exploit some of their weaknesses, and I think that gave our team a lot of confidence."
First-year head coach Keith Martin was also pleased to see the program snap the two-year long skid, but was mostly pleased with the way his unit continues to come together.
"This is a brand new system and we're still learning," said Martin. "One of the coolest things myself and (assistant coach) Jim (Kesterholt) saw tonight was how these kids are starting to play the game of basketball. Those basketball instincts are starting to show up and it's a nice thing to see."
Youngsville's offense came to life early in the game and stayed strong throughout.
The Eagles eclipsed 20 points in three of the four quarters and led by as many as 25 points late in the game.
With Horn knocking down the shots and Dininny controlling the boards, Youngsville led 22-9 after the opening quarter. With a large group of "Eagles Nest" supporters cheering them on, the hosts maintained the double-digit advantage for much of the remainder of the game.
Horn and Dininny didn't do it alone on Wednesday as A.J. Gustafson joined the duo in double figures with 10 points. James Frazier added seven points and Collin Lehnen finished with six.
The Eagles will try to keep their early season momentum rolling on Friday when they travel to Cambridge Springs.
Youngsville dropped the junior varsity game, 49-27. Trevor Flinn and Jacob Linkerhof each scored nine points in defeat.

KANE - Sheffield got its league season off on the wrong foot Wednesday with a 63-50 road loss to the Kane Wolves at Kane Area High School.
After finishing up 1-1 at the Warren County Tipoff Classic this past weekend, the Wolverines played a strong Wolves team close deep into Wednesday's game. Sheffield trailed by just three points entering the final period but the hosts held a firm19-9 advantage in the fourth and final quarter.
Dylan McNeal and Brendan Winslow provided a nice one-two punch in defeat, scoring 20 and 18 points respectively. However, the remainder of the Wolverines roster accounted for only 12 points. Shequan Wright had a strong night on the boards pulling down 12 rebounds.
Sheffield (1-2) will try to get back into the winning mode Friday when it hosts AML favorite Johnsonburg.

West Forest 73, Tidioute Charter 33
TIONESTA - An 11 turnover, one point first quarter set the Tidioute Community Charter School boys basketball team to an 0-3 start after a 73-33 road setback on Wednesday night at West Forest.
"They came out pretty slow tonight," TCCS coach Dave Manning said.
After the rough start, the Bulldogs rebounded in the second, outscoring West Forest 18-15. "In the second quarter, we came out shooting," Manning said.
While the Bulldogs only turned the ball over seven times after the first, Manning explained that the "third quarter killed. We couldn't get any shots to fall. Everything they threw up went in."
West Forest's Russell Thomas, who came off the bench in the contest, scored 18 of his game high 23 in the second half. "We just couldn't get a hand in his face," Manning said. "For whatever reason, tonight was his night."
Couple Thomas' explosion with a poor third quarter shooting for the Bulldogs and the game slipped out of reach. "We just couldn't get a shot to fall. You don't score the points, you don't crawl your way back into the game."
Brian Faulkner led the Bulldogs in scoring with 11 points and Ben Kightlinger chipped in 10.
Tidioute will now take a break before they play again, next Thursday at home versus Erie First Christian.
Tidioute also dropped the junior varsity contest, 36-21. Dan Heckman led the Bulldogs with six points.
