Mrs. Lorraine G. Slack passed into the next life, December 7, 2012 at 9:00am following an extended illness. She was born January 3, 1928 in Frewsburg, NY to the late Leonard and Lily M. Miller Spicer.
A lifelong area resident, Lorraine enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and was an avid bingo player. She loved her grandchildren, cooking, music, and traveling. Lorraine retired from Warren State Hospital as a Psychiatric Aide, was a member of Sheffield United Methodist Church, Sheffield Senior Center, and the Kitchen Band.
She is survived by a son, William Smead, Sr. and Lydia, Sheffield; four daughters, Glendora "Punky" McKown and husband Sherman, Sheffield, Peggy Osti, Sheffield, Audrey "Jeanie" Smead, Sheffield, and Mary Braughlar and husband Jeffrey, Warren; a stepdaughter Kathryn Johnson and husband Douglas, Bear Lake; 19 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; 12 great greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Lorraine was preceded in death by her first husband Glenn W. Smead in 1970; her second husband Harold G. Slack in 1995 whom she married December 18, 1981 in Warren; one son, James Smead; two brothers, Leonard Spicer and Donald B. Turner; and four sisters, Theora Reinhardt, Christine Spicer, June A. Fink, and Mae Crowell.
A funeral service will be held at Sheffield United Methodist Church, Monday, December 10, 2012 at 1:00pm. Friends will be received from 11:00am 1:00pm, immediately preceding the service on Monday. Rev. Dennis Johnson, pastor, Sheffield Methodist and Rev. Bill Harper, pastor, Jackson Run Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Barnes Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Warren County, Sheffield United Methodist Church, or Sheffield Senior Center.
