Operation Christmas Child

Dear editor,

Sometimes we fail to give this community and its people the credit they deserve. I've had the privilege of serving as the coordinator of Operation Christmas Child for this area since 2009.

This year, our Collection Center (serving Warren County and also receiving shoe boxes from Corry, Bradford, Coudersport, and Emporium) hoped to send 4,300 shoe box gifts as part of Samaritan's Purse's effort to share God's love with children who live in conditions that we can't even begin to imagine. Thanks to the amazing folks in and around our

area, the trailer left Pleasant Community Church Monday afternoon with 5,028 shoe box gifts! What a wonderful town this is! A special thanks goes to the Times Observer for its coverage of this year's collection.

Again, thanks to everyone (individuals, groups, and churches) who took the time to fill a shoe box and bring some joy into a child's life. May you have a very blessed Christmas season.

Sincerely,

Patti Seth

Pirates of the Caribbean

Dear editor:

Bravo to the Warren Philharmonic Orchestra musicians, conductor Bryan Eckenrode, narrator Mark Silvis, the Linda Dies Dance Express and all the children who "joined in" with the orchestra during the Pirates of the Caribbean selection.

This children's concert on Nov. 18 was a masterpiece of wonderful musicianship and was a lot of fun for those of us in the audience.

We are so fortunate to have an orchestra of this caliber here in Warren County. It truly was a delightful way to introduce children and families to the Orchestra.

Senior Expo

Dear editor,

Aging in America is an everyday challenge that affects individuals, families, and communities. Once each year, the Warren/Forest Elder Care Council hosts the Senior Expo, an informational/educational event that hundreds, if not thousands, of senior citizens attend. The Senior Expo for 2012 was just held this past month on Oct. 26. While the Elder Care Council members themselves contribute significant amounts of time and effort, there are also some unsung heroes we'd like to thank.

The Warren-Forest County Eldercare Council would like to thank Warren Area High School's Catherine Hagadorn and student volunteers; Christopher Widdowson, Warren County Prison Work Release Coordinator, and the inmates; Warren Mall; and all sponsors and vendors who chose to participate in this year's Expo. The Senior Expo would not take place were it not for the participation of these entities who recognize the value of this Expo for seniors in our community.

Sincerely,

The Warren-Forest County Eldercare Council

Farley Wright, president of Eldercare Council
