A renewal of rental fees for facilities in the Warren County School District turned into a discussion on the procedure in which facilities can be rented by outside organizations during last Monday night's meeting of the school board's Physical Plant and Facilities Committee.
When the fees, which are unchanged from prior years, were presented to the committee for discussion, member John Grant asked, "Who is going to administer the fees? Routinely, our building principals are in charge of the buildings. Are they authorized to sign these agreements? If we want our building administrators to do it, I wish it was a little bit less complicated."
Grant said he was expressing his hesitation out of a concern for how building principals are utilized. "I just felt it was complicated and if building-level administrators are going to do it, is that where we want them to spend their time?"
"No, it's not where we want them to spend their time," Superintendent Brandon Hufnagel responded. He explained that the building principal will set the date for any facility use requests and leave fee collection and other issues to central office administration.
"Under our present financial situation, we have to have some type of fee structure," Grant said. "Hopefully, this will not be cumbersome."
If an organization wants to rent a facility for an event, it would contact the school to receive paperwork, confirm the date with the building and then forward the request to the central office.
"We need to get this out there for people to see and to get to know what they have to do," member Tom Knapp said.
