The Valley Days Committee could not have asked for more support than they received at their first "Soups & Sweets" dinner held at the Grand Valley Fire Hall with 32 homemade soups and more 35 desserts. Decorations were donated by Heather Morris and Andrea Platt and set in place by Andrea. Kristi Eck headed up the basket raffle. Winners were: scrapbooking basket, Cassie Perrin; hunting basket, Cheryl Baine; kids basket, Alisha Neeley; bakers basket, Lois Walters; and the lottery tree, Dennis Cedrone. Heather Morris was in charge of the soup table. Andrea Platt, Alissa Savitz and Amanda Baker handled desserts. Jessica Confer and Alisha Neeley collected money at the door. Stephanie Sellen and Missie Johnson bussed tables. Brandon Birchard, Brittany and Kate Baker headed up the refreshments and kitchen duty. Jordan Baker helped in all areas, and Robert Paden handled the pie raffle. Linda Confer provided photographs, and Cindy Upton helped set up.
A voting box was available to vote for the grand marshal 2013 Valley Days. This will be an ongoing chance for the community to vote.
Serving approximately 120 people, five raffles and bidding on several pies the committee earned $1,320 toward the goal of $5,000.
The next fundraiser will be held at the Clearview Inn, 8653 Route 27, Pittsfield, on Nov. 21 at 9:30. The band "Alterred Fate" will be coming out of retirement to help support the Valley Days 2013. More ... Chairperson Stephanie Sellen opened the Nov. 7 meeting of Valley Days at Grand Valley Fire Hall. Those attending also included vice president Missie Johnson and secretary Jessica Confer. The group discussed forming bylaws, which includes an expectation for officers to attend two of three meetings in a row. John Gregory will help put the bylaws into place.
Johnson reported a list of 58 donations to Soups and Sweets, which was held Nov. 9 at the fire hall. Andrea Platt and Heather Morris coordinated the decorating. Committees included Confer at the register; Sellen and Alissa Savitz, bus tables; Johnson labeled soups and sweets; Kristie Eck, baskets raffles; Kate and Brittany Baker, drinks.
The Valley Days committee will collect money at the door of an "Altered Fate" fund-raiser to be held at Clearview Inn on Nov. 21. Confer will approach Clearview Inn about selling 50/50 tickets during this fundraiser.
The committee decided to wait on ideas for new fundraisers until mid to late winter. Andrea Platt would like to see Valentine's Day as a startup for new fundraisers. Other ideas were discussed.
Donations cans will be at retail establishments to help support Valley Days fireworks in 2013. The committee will continue to meet, and there will be a community vote for grand marshal. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 5.
