Warren Antiques Study Club met Oct. 22 at the Woman's Club. Vice president Cathy Grant led the meeting and announced that club president Pat Slattery was recuperating at home following an unexpected operation. The club motto, "Preserving yesterday and today for tomorrow," was recited, and the group joined David Winans outside for an interesting walking tour that stretched from the Woman's Club to Fourth Avenue, up Liberty Street, across Sixth Avenue and back down Market Street to the club building.
His tour was highlighted by information on the styles of the beautiful homes and buildings along the route, including the courthouse and the historical society. Winans also presented tidbits of local history and anecdotes on some of the past residents of these lovely streets. Discovering facts such as how the cannon came to be sitting on the front lawn of the courthouse were not only historic but also entertaining, as were the observations of several of the long-time Warren residents who participated in the walk.
Upon returning to the Woman's Club, refreshments were provided by committee members Julie Hanson, Carol Anderson, Rachel Robertson, Janice Thompson, Carmen Culbertson, Ann Simpson, Sally Citro, Connie Jenkinson and Margery Smith. The next meeting will be Nov. 26. Crissi Winans will present a program entitled "Warren Furniture Manufacturing."
