DISTRICT 10 SEMIFINALS (updated scoring): Prep beats Warren

November 16, 2012
The Times Observer

ERIE - Here are the scoring plays (which were updated by Ben Oviatt from the game) of Cathedral Prep's 54-12 win over Warren on Friday at Veterans Stadium in Erie.

Prep, the top-ranked team in the state, is 11-0 and advances to next weekend's D-10 final against General McLane (a 46-42 winner over Slippery Rock). Warren's season ends at 9-3. Warren defeated Conneaut in the quarterfinals last week and had last won a playoff game in 2002. Quarterback Austin Jerman was hit hard all game, including leaving for a short stretch, but again showed his toughness. He's a senior and will graduate as Warren all-time leading passer at over 4,000 career yards.

Cathedral Prep scored on its first possession for a 7-0 lead with 9:19 left in first quarter. Prep's Damion Terry - D-10's all-time leading passer - on a 24-yard TD to Troy Woodard.

Jerman was hurt on Warren's first possession as quarterback. Sophomore D.J. Fehlman, the freshmen team's starting QB last year, is in at quarterback for the second possession.

Prep's Delton Williams scores on an 11-yard run on the Ramblers' second possession for a 14-0 lead. Two possessions, two scores for the top-ranked Class AAA team in the state. Both Terry and Williams are going to Michigan State in the fall.

Jerman returns for Warren after getting checked out for a possession, but Warren punts again on third possession of first quarter.

Prep is unstoppable through three possessions, leading 14-0 at the end of one and down to Warren's 6-yard line to start the second quarter.

Williams walks in for his second rushing touchdown, 21-0 Prep with 11:56 to go in second.

Terry to Williams for a tremendous catch down to the Warren-1, which sets up Williams' third TD and a 27-0 Prep lead midway through the second quarter.

Williams has three touchdown runs on three carries.

Williams is a defensive prospect for Michigan State and is tackling hard tonight, causing a fumble late in the second, recovered by Prep.

Terry nearly added to Prep's big lead on a long TD pass, but it was called back as he had passed the line of scrimmage. Jordan Willetts intercepts Terry on same drive for Terry's first big mistake.

Correct that: Warren goes for it an fails on fourth down at its own 25. Terry takes advantage and hits a receiver for a TD and 34-0 lead, still in the second quarter.

Warren state-caliber sprinter Luke Wortman broke off a 88-yard run to the Prep-3 late in the half, but was caught by Williams, and Warren didn't score.

It is all Prep in the first half, 34-0 at halftime.

More of the same. Terry with a laser for a TD to start the third, 40-0 Prep. Running clock.

After a failed fourth down attempt and a Warren player being ejected, Terry hits another long pass in the end zone for a 47-0 lead. Terry, District 10's all-time leader in TD passes already, now has four in the game with 4:53 left in the third.

And Warren is on the board. After a couple close calls in which Warren nearly scored, Jerman hits Willetts for a 53-yard strike and 47-6 deficit at 1:38 in third.

Prep backup QB intercepted as fourth quarter begins.

Prep gets the ball back and a 13-yard TD run makes it 54-6.

It's getting a little chippy with six minutes to go before Prep plays the winner of Slippery Rock-General McLane in title game next week.

Late touchdown pass by Jerman brings the final score to 54-12.
