Firefighters continued to monitor a fire on Allegheny National Forest property Tuesday.
Peter To, ANF fire management officer, said the fire started off of Farnsworth Road near Cherry Grove around 1:30 p.m. Monday. Early indications of cause pointed to power lines which had been downed by wind.
Only the first layer of leaf litter was burned off. Besides that, To said there was no damage and no injuries.
According to To, roughly 22 people responded to the fire. Volunteer firefighters responded from Sheffield, Cherry Grove, Pleasant and Clarendon as well as Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
"Right now, we have crews monitoring it and patrolling it," To said Tuesday afternoon. "They've found some smoke, so they'll probably monitor it for a couple days until we get more rain or don't see any more smoke."
Around 15 acres were impacted by the fire. It started in the middle of a slope, To said, and followed that slope up and then back down again as the wind pushed it along.
All of the fire was contained on federal property. With dry conditions expected for the rest of the week, To said the fire danger would likely be bumped up to "moderate."
Throughout the county, responders dealt with three other brush fires on Monday. High winds and dry conditions contributed to those blazes.
