Warren Area High School graduate Colter Johnson has been named Mid-Atlantic Conference (MAC) Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 11. Johnson, a junior punter who transferred from Alfred State, had his best game yet for Division I UMass. He punted six times, averaging 44.8 yards per punt with a long of 53 yards, in a 22-14 road win over Akron.
Four of his six punts pinned Akron inside the Zips' own 10-yard line, including back-to-back punts in the third and fourth quarters that were downed at the one-yard line.

Akron features 6-foot-6, 315-pound starting right guard Mitch Straight, an Eisenhower High School graduate. Straight, a senior for the Zips, has played in 40 games on the offensive line over four seasons, including starting all 11 at right guard thus far this season for 1-10 Akron.

Warren Area High School graduate T.J. Latimer had two tackles - one on special teams and one at linebacker - as a sophomore in Division II Mercyhurst University's 52-45 win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday at Tullio Field in Erie.
Redshirt freshman Brandon Brown-Dukes capped off a 9-2 2012 regular season with a 21-yard touchdown run with 1:17 left in regulation. The Lakers were left out of the NCAA playoffs and finished the 2012 season with the second-most wins in school history, one shy of the school record of 10 set back during the 2010 PSAC Championship season.

Eisenhower High School graduate and Division II Gannon University redshirt sophomore punter/quarterback Cody Crosby has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District I football first team released last week.
Crosby landed a spot on the academic all-district first team with a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average. The Mechanical Engineering major is one of two Gannon punters who split punting duties this season. A Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Scholar-Athlete every year, the redshirt sophomore received the Division II Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement Award last year.
The Russell native has averaged 33.1 yards on 19 punts this season, placing three inside the 20-yard line and forcing two fair catches. Crosby booted a season-long 49-yarder during the season-opener against Lake Erie. He averaged 38.7 yards on three punts at nationally-ranked Bloomsburg, placing one inside the 20-yard line while recording one touchback and two fair catches.
He punted five times on Saturday for 172 yards for Gannon (3-8) in a 45-6 win over LIU Post.
The 2012 Capital One Academic All-District I football teams were selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The first-team members will now move to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. The All-America teams are scheduled to be released Wednesday, December 5.
The NCAA Division II District I consists of the same NCAA Division II colleges and universities listed athletically in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region. The district includes the PSAC, the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC), the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and independent Washington Adventist. To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average and a starter or significant reserve on his team.

Eisenhower graduate Lucas Schwanke, a senior safety, is listed as having two tackles in three games for 5-5 Division III Allegheny College.
Coaches
Eisenhower High School graduate Kiel Woodburn was approved at Monday's full school board meeting as the Eisenhower High School head wrestling coach for the 2012-13 season, replacing Kris Black, who had resigned. Eric Schotts was approved as assistant wrestling coach.
For the spring season, Wayne Marino was approved as head baseball coach at Youngsville High School, replacing Tom Craig.
