Vernon B. Olson, 85, of 519 Biddle Street, Kane, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2012 in Kane Community Hospital.
Born February 20, 1927 in Wilcox, he was a son of Charles and Edith Simpkins Olson. In 1946 he was married to Elizabeth Cooley who passed away in 1966. On June 15, 1968 in Shamokin, he married Sandra Ryan, who survives.
Mr. Olson worked for 37 years at Kane Manufacturing Co. retiring in 1991 as chief estimator. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy Amphibious Unit.
Mr. Olson was a member of the National Rifle Association, Charter member of the American Modelers Association and cofounder of Kane Schools Modelers Club. He also helped coach the Kane Science Olympiad teams, was President of the Kane Flyers Club, and was a member of the Kane United Methodist Church.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three daughters; Dr. Darlene Olson, Derwood, Md., Pamela Schwenk, Pittsburgh, and Christina Olson, Indiana, Pa., 2 sons; Monte (Vickie) Olson Charlotte, NC and Douglas (Lisa) Olson, Pittsburgh, a sister, Joyce Leike, Punta Gorda, Fla., a brother, Charles (Shirley) Olson, Erie, 5 grandchildren, 4 greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a sister.
Friends will be received Sunday from 24 & 79 p.m. in the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc., 103 South Fraley Street, Kane, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Rev. Philip Pinczewski, pastor of St. Callistus Church officiating. Burial will be in St. Callistus Cemetery.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
