CORRY - Warren's Mark Davis caught his second touchdown pass from Austin Jerman late in the third quarter, and the Dragons beat Conneaut, 21-12, on Friday in the District 10 Class AAA quarterfinal playoffs at Corry Area High School.
The win was the first playoff victory for Warren since 2002, and the Dragons (9-2) will play state-ranked Cathedral Prep next week in the semifinals.
Warren's Jordan Willetts scored on a 50-yard TD run in the second quarter for a 14-6 halftime lead, and Warren never trailed in the game.
Warren scored on a touchdown pass from Jerman to Davis early in the second quarter for the lead, but Conneaut scored midway through the second on a short run - missing the extra point - and the score was 7-6 before Conneaut failed on an onside kick attempt.
Conneaut went for it on fourth down on the last play of the half, but threw an interception to Willetts in the end zone to trail by 8. Willetts nearly took it the distance.
Conneaut scored first in the third quarter on a touchdown pass, but Jerman broke up the two-point conversion pass to keep the lead, 14-12.
Davis nearly caught a third TD pass from Jerman with five minutes left in the fourth, but Warren came up short on 4th-and-goal.
Lakeview eliminated Eisenhower, 36-6, in the District 10 Class A playoffs at War Memorial Field.
Ike drove down to the Lakeview-6 before a fumble gave the ball back before halftime. A Zach Bigley 72-yard run opened the scoring in the third, and he added a 54-yard run in the fourth. John Pascuzzi's 1-yard TD run put Ike (8-3) on the board.
