The ballot in Warren County was short and most of the races didn't feature much drama, but people from across the country checked into votewarren.org to see the result that were coming in.
More than 400 people from 27 states went to the site run by Bill Gallagher, the county's IT director and owner of Insight Technologies, that records the vote count of each precinct in each race.
He said the site started to see activity in the days preceding the election as individuals logged on to ensure the site would be live on election night.
While the vast majority of visitors are from Pennsylvania, the site's viewership extends from sea to shining sea. The site received hits from Massachusetts and New Jersey all the way to California, extending even farther out to Hawaii. Georgia, Louisiana, Colorado, Iowa and Idaho are just a few of the locales from which people checked into the site to review results.
Indicating on Tuesday afternoon that page views were still increasing at approximately 25 per hour, Gallagher estimated that the site would reach 10,000 individual page views. The page view number has been much higher in past elections, he explained, especially municipal elections that feature races in each of the county's municipalities. The past "high water mark" is in the realm of 70,000 page views.
Local elections tend to drive up the unique visitor count as well to an all-time high in the range of 700 and 900. National elections tend to be lower, he explained, because "people are looking at national media outlets rather than our website."
He said that there were some site visits from outside the country but that the number was negligible.
Another interesting facet to the site is the ability to tell what entities are reviewing the information.
Several state entities, including the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education and the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare, hit the site to review election numbers as did the Pennsylvania Senate and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
