Jr. high hoops

Eisenhower's eighth-graders went 1-2 over the weekend at the Slippery Rock Shootout with 12 teams in round-robin format.

Eisenhower beat Franklin, 34-29, in its first game. For Ike, Joni Zortman had nine points, Kirsten Baran eight, Ana Carlton eight, Tiffany Work four, Alecia Straight two, Haley Spicer two, and Payton Mineweaser one.

Butler then beat Ike, 40-10. Baran had six and Mineweaser four for Ike.

Finally, Slippery Rock beat Ike, 38-28. Baran had 11 points, Zortman 11, Straight four, and Carlton two.

Eisenhower went 6-15 overall on the season.

Warren Area High School graduate T.J. Latimer had two tackles and a fumble recovery in Mercyhurst University's 40-7 Division II win over California of Pa. on Saturday in Erie.

Warren Area High School graduate Colter Johnson had five punts for 219 yards - a 43.8 average - and a long of 52 in Division I UMass's 63-0 loss on Saturday to Northern Illinois.

Warren Area High School graduate Kelsey Nuhfer was part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team for Cal U that finished first by one-tenth of a second in 1:39.70 in a Division II dual swimming sweep of Gannon and Millersville on Saturday in California, Pa.

Youngsville High School graduate Abel Robinault was 59th out of 153 runners as a sophomore for Division II CAl U, finishing the 8K in 33:17.7 at Saturday morning's NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships at Lock Haven University.
