FOOTBALL: Seniors lead playoff-bound Warren to win over Titusville

What a night for the seniors.

After honoring over a dozen seniors prior to the game, the Dragons rolled to a 35-7 non-region win over the Titusville Rockets Friday at War Memorial Field, with all 35 points being accounted for by the senior class.

"This is a very special group," said Warren coach Brad Wright, whose team finishes the regular season and heads into the District 10 Class AAA playoffs with a record of 8-2 overall. "They have a special bond with each other; it really is a brotherhood."

The Warren student section cheers for their team during the Dragons 35-7 win over Titusville Friday night at War Memorial Field. The Dragons will advance to the District 10 Class AAA playoffs next week at a site and time to be announced.

After trading fumbles to start the game, the Dragons got on the board when Austin Jerman found Jordan Willetts from three yards out. That lead was extended in the second quarter when Chris McNeal pounded in a four-yard run to put the Dragons up 14-0 heading into the half.

Any hopes of a Titusville comeback were crushed in the third quarter when Jerman - Warren's all-time leading passer - busted off a 52-yard option keeper for a touchdown.

Brad Walters' interception then set up a 23-yard pass from Jerman to Mark Davis. Jerman would strike one more time through the air, this time to McGraw, before giving way to the reserves to run out the clock.

The Warren defense held Titusville to just 125 total yards, all on the ground, and didn't allow a touchdown until the fourth quarter.

"The past two weeks is the best our defense has performed all year," said Wright.

Jerman finished the night completing 10-of-17 pass attempts for 153 yards and three touchdowns, as well as 120 yards and one touchdown on the ground. He is currently 32 passing yards shy of the 4,000-yard mark in his four-year Dragon career.

Warren ended the regular season with a firm hold on third place in Region 5. The Dragons will most likely play either Oil City - whom they defeated 60-36 in week five - or Conneaut in the first round of the playoffs next week.
