The future

November 2, 2012
The Times Observer

Dear editor:

Romney probably has a better chance of controlling the coming crash of America around our spoiled little behinds. It was nice to think an affable commoner could bring the nation into a made up 21st century model of whatever "social justice", "diversity" and "inclusiveness " is. Wrong project, wrong man at the wrong time. This is real life, not reality TV folks.

Capitalism can't survive without some social programs any more than communism can survive without winking at some capitalist income padding their coffers. It's time to bite the bullet, and begin cuts in spending. Waste and fraud alone in medicare/medicaid would pay for most social programs that need to be kept. It will take serious work not rhetoric for about ten years to get us out of debt. Everybody from rich to poor has to be involved. We could start by not giving EIC tax money to people who don't pay taxes, make people who are getting checks to feed their kids pay for their school lunches, and not spend any more on NCLB. Social justice should not be a government funded job, let alone a government position. We need to use immigration reform to help our nation, not other countries, and certainly not to buy votes.

Infrastructure alone could employ enough citizens to get millions off welfare and unemployment. I don't care if it's CCC camps and WPA projects.

Put a stop to attaching riders to bills that would pass congress with a simple up or down vote. No committee chair should have the power to hold the country hostage. Once a government program is started, it's near impossible to stop. Begin dismantling now. Rescind excecutive order by President Obama, Bush, and Clinton that are costing us a fortune to make some small portion of voters feel warm and fuzzy. Govern from the Capitol, not talk shows and media wags. America is bankrupt economically and integrity is a casualty of our well fed apathy. Bring back civility to the halls of congress and demand liars and cheats be dealt with by dismissal, including judges who think they are rulers.
