Freshmen football

The Warren freshmen football team ended its season with a pair of victories during the past two weeks of play. The Dragons first beat Strong Vincent, 33-14, before disposing of Corry by a 42-22 score.

Ryan Gorgacz led the rushing attack against Vincent with 14 carries for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Sage Anderson added another 80 rushing yards and a touchdown and Evan Suppa was 6-of-7 passing with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Nick Willetts. Defensively, the Dragons were led by Devin Nowacki's scoop and score fumble recovery as well as stout play on the line from Tony Citro, Matt Jimerson and Steven Crone.

Against Corry, Logan Galloway carried five times for 103 yards and a touchdown and also tossed touchdown passes of 78 yards to Nowacki and one yard to Derek Reagle. The Dragon offense finished the day with over 400 yards of offense. On the defensive side of the ball, Gorgacz returned an interception for 96 yards for a touchdown while Dylan Ferrie, Ryan Winters, Suppa and Tyler Heubach were also defensive standouts.

Punt, pass and kick

Warren's Evan Suppa competed in the Erie Sectional Championship for the NFL/Pepsi Punt, Pass and Kick competition this past weekend - the second step in the national competition. Scores are based on aerial distance with a yardage deduction for non-accuracy. Suppa had net scores of 39 yards (punt), 48 yards (pass) and kickoff (46 yards).

If Suppa's score is one of the top four winning sectional scores in the Pittsburgh Steelers' region for the 14-15-year-old division, Suppa will be invited to the next round of the competition scheduled for the day of the Steelers vs. Chargers NFL game at Heinz Field.
