County inmate walks away

An inmate from Warren County Prison escaped over the weekend by running out of an Erie hospital.

John Allcorn, 53, was being treated for a medical condition at UPMC Hamot and was reportedly under the supervision of a Warren County corrections officer when he ran out of the front door of the hospital.

Gerald Britton, warden of the prison, said on Monday that the inmate ran out of the hospital room and down the stairway before escaping. He was in jail on a parole violation stemming from original charges of simple assault and criminal mischief.

Allcorn was last seen heading east on Third Street. He is 5'11" and weighs 170 pounds. He was last spotted wearing grey shorts, no shoes and no shirt.

"As of right now, he has not been located," Britton said on Monday morning.

Flyers went out to news media and police departments including the City of Erie department have also been notified. On Monday morning, Britton said Erie news outlets showed Allcorn's picture.

The escape took place at approximately 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Right now, Britton said, the search is focused on the Erie area as there is nothing to indicate he has left it.

"All of his known addresses have been checked," Britton said. "We've done everything we can do here."

Since Britton has been warden, he said nothing like this has happened before, but he could not answer beyond the past three or four years. While officials are hoping Allcorn gets picked up, all they can do for now is wait.
