Dear editor:
On October 17th I was reading the Warren Times Observer, as I do every morning. I was very concerned to read that our hospital, Warren General, was overlooked for funding for being a rural hospital. I wonder how will our hospital be able to run?
We as a family have been very blessed by this hospital. We have had four lives saved by great doctors many years ago. Dr. Fino saved my life when I had an ectopic pregnancy, I almost died. Dr. Fino did emergency surgery on me and many blood transfusions later I came through it. Thanks to his skilled hands and this wonderful hospital. Our daughter who is a juvenile diabetic was admitted when she was seven months pregnant. She was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and extremely high blood pressure. Dr. McConnell was in her room as she began having a seizure. They called code blue and 4 other doctors went rushing into her room. Dr. Fino took me by the hand and led me to her bedside. My husband and I prayed that her life and our granddaughter's life would be saved. Our daughter was in surgery as they delivered her pre-mature daughter. Our daughter was taken to ICU on life support and our granddaughter was life flighted to Buffalo Children's Hospital. Warren General for the 2nd time saved both our family members. They both are healthy now. Our 3rd child was born at full-term, but we were told he had a 50/50 chance of survival - he was given his last rights. By another skillful doctor, Dr. Borger - he saved his life. Once again thank you to our wonderful hospital and skilled doctors.
Each Thanksgiving I look around the table as does my husband and am so very thankful to God and these skilled doctors he put into our lives. We look around our table and see all our children, grandchildren and now great-grandchildren healthy and happy.
I wrote this letter to show that a rural hospital has a huge impact on our community. I pray we don't lose it. Thank you again to Warren General and the wonderful doctors!
Sincerely,
Dennis and
Mary Schmader
