TAWC asks that launch be plowed on River Road

The Transit Authority of Warren County is looking for some help from the Conewango Township supervisors on a bus route that runs on River Road.

The Authority has sent a letter to the supervisors asking for a waiver to be able to drive over the bridge on River Road, according to TAWC Director John Aldrich.

"I don't think this is going to go through for liability issues," Aldrich told the Authority board during Wednesday's meeting at the TAWC officers on Clark Street. There is a weight limit on the bridge that the weight of the buses exceed.

Aldrich explained that the bus currently turns around at the boat launch on River Road but expressed concern regarding whether the launch will be consistently plowed during the winter months. Without a place to turn around, Aldrich said that the service might not be available at that location.

Board member and Conewango Township Supervisor Linda Swanson asked who owns the launch and Aldrich said that the Fish and Game Commission is responsible for the launch. Swanson proposed that the Township could potentially plow the boat launch lot. "I wouldn't have a problem with that at all," Swanson said.

Aldrich informed the board that buses used to turn around at the mobile home park on River Road but said that the owner asked that the park no longer be used.

Aldrich will approach the Fish and Game Commission on this issue before any final decision is made.
