The Cochranton Cardinals got their revenge, defeating defending Region 2 champion Youngsville, 54-7, on Friday night at Mike Shine Field.
It was almost a year ago that the then-8-0 Eagles won this Region 2 battle, 58-6. This year's loss drops the Eagles' record to 1-7 on the season.
"We gameplanned the same this year like we did when we were 8-0 last year," Youngsville coach Luke Alex said. Only this year's team is banged up due to a multitude of injuries.

Loss hurts
Youngsville’s Dan McLaughlin, left, dives to make a tackle on a Cochranton ball carrier during a 54-7 Region 2 loss to the Cardinals on Friday at Mike Shine Field. For story, see page C-2.
Cochranton got off to an early start, scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter. Cardinals' running back Austin Andrews racked up 158 yards and hit paydirt four times in the win. Cochranton was able to dominate the run game with 255 yards and five touchdowns total.
Run defense has been an issue all season for the Eagles, as they have given up over 200 yards rushing in every game thus far, and four times have been run on for over 300 yards.
"We need better tackling at the point of attack," Alex said. "This has been our issue all year, even when we were healthy. I did think we pursued the ball better. James Funkhouser has really stepped it up on defense."
Youngsville has been plagued by injuries all season, only having a handful of the team's original starters able to suit up against Cochranton. This has given opportunity for the Eagle underclassmen to step up into more prominent roles.
Jacob Lauffenburger scored the Eagles' only touchdown, a one yard run with under five minutes to go in the second quarter.
"Jacob Lauffenburger runs the ball so hard," Alex said of his sophomore quarterback.
Next week, Youngsville will travel to the Pasture of Pain to face the first-place Eisenhower Knights in a backyard brawl.
"This is always a big game," Alex said. "We have got to try to motivate ourselves."
