Dear editor,
As the presidential race draws near, I think it is safe to say that we all know deep inside that there in no one who can be elected as President that can solve the problems of this country. I am not being pessimistic - but realistic. There isn't a plan out there that will actually work. It is simply the times we are living in.
I choose to put my hope in Jesus Christ. Can He fix our country's problems? Of course He can, but I don't believe He will, at least not how we think. Not because He can't, mind you, but because He has another plan in mind - one that is "out of this world".
His plan doesn't have to do with presidents and world economies, but rather it is about a King and His Kingdom. According to the Bible, the infallible Word of God, Jesus is soon to come and establish His Kingdom. All the troubles we are going through were told of by the prophets of old, and Jesus Himself said that when we see these things begin to happen, look up for our redemption draws near. My friends, I am looking up.
You may call it escapism, and I couldn't agree more. How wonderful it is to escape the natural realities in favor of the spiritual realities that are promised to me by God Himself in His Word. Of course I still have to get up and go to work, and do all those things I should do, but when I get a moment, my heart, mind, soul and spirit retreat into that spiritual realm where I can enjoy the peace and presence of God.
The anxieties of the day melt in His presence. In His presence is fullness of joy. Healing, strength, and proper perspective abound when I focus my attention on Jesus, and talk to Him throughout the day like the friend that He is. Like the clich says, "No God, no peace know God, know peace".
I invite you to enter into this continual spiritual retreat that Jesus offers. I'm not special, He offers the same deal to everyone. Simply believe in Him and invite Him into your life. He will give you peace and change your perspective as well as your eternal destiny.
Go ahead and vote for the best presidential candidate you can - but put your hope in King Jesus.
