On Senior Day at Eisenhower High School, three of the Ike boys soccer seniors were able to account for four goals in the Knights' 5-1 victory over Seneca.
Jake VanHouten recorded two goals while Ben Perkins and Andy Decker scored once each as coach Mike Decker praised the play of all five of his seniors, including Matt Eernisse and Ryan Williams.
Decker was also pleased with the bounce back performance his team showed after a tie on Saturday.
"We played a much better game today," said Decker. "We possessed the ball better and were more aggressive going after the ball. It was also nice to get the entire team some playing time. We haven't been able to do so in some very difficult matches as of late."
Perkins started the scoring for Ike nearly six minutes into the game. VanHouten re-directed a corner kick with a header and Perkins buried the shot for a 1-0 lead.
The Bobcats scored the next goal, but the Knights reclaimed the lead before halftime when VanHouten scored on a breakaway.
As has become custom this season, the Knights (7-5-1) scored quickly in the second half as Andy Decker played a short ball to Josh Eernisse for the 3-1 lead. Perkins assisted on the last two goals, getting the ball behind the Seneca defense for scores by VanHouten and Andy Decker.
No junior varsity match was played.
The Knights return to action Wednesday, visiting North East in a region matchup.
