BOYS SOCCER: Warren boys soccer works on playoff resume

October 16, 2012
The Times Observer

TITUSVILLE - With Warren likely needing an at-large bid to qualify for the District 10 playoffs, each remaining regular season match is an opportunity for coach Tom Harrington's Dragons to show why they belong in the field.

The Dragons (12-4) took another step toward proving their point Monday with a dominating 7-1 victory over the Titusville Rockets at Titusville Area High School.

"I was very happy with our passing, especially in the second half," said Harrington. "We were patient and able to wait for breakdowns in the defense. When we pass the ball like that, I feel that we are as good as any one."

Warren started the scoring eight minutes into the match when Hunter Mohney's shot was deflected and found the foot of Matt Sandberg for the first of three Sandberg goals. Just over a minute later, Sandberg fed a through ball to Mohney who doubled Warren's advantage.

After the Rockets cut the lead to 2-1, the Dragons were able to stretch the lead in the final moments of the half when Sandberg fed Liam Boger for a goal.

After intermission, Warren's passing picked up and, as a result, the goals kept piling up for the visitors.

Seven minutes into the half, Boger assisted on Sandberg's second goal and the combination worked again ten minutes later to make it 5-1. Quinn Boger assisted on Mohney's second goal later in the half and Quinn also scored on a pass from Mitchell Dorunda.

No junior varsity contest was played.

The Dragons continue their postseason charge Wednesday when they visit Corry.
