GIRLS SOCCER: Lady Dragons win on Senior Day

October 15, 2012
The Times Observer

Warren's girls soccer team celebrated Senior Recognition Day on Saturday with a 2-1 non-region win over Harbor Creek at War Memorial Field.

Things didn't start out the greatest as the Huskies - who beat Warren earlier this season - would score first.

Warren senior goalie Amanda Pinkerton - one of nine senior Dragons - would shut Harbor Creek out the rest of the match.

"Amanda made a lot of good decisions today," said Warren coach Bom Domville, whose Dragons are 7-9 overall, "helping the defense to limit Harbor Creek's scoring chances."

Warren tied the score when senior Jaimie Eaton sent freshman Kathryn Lobdell in behind the Huskies defense to beat the goalkeeper.

"(Kathryn) has been working hard and learning what it takes to beat a varsity keeper, and that showed today with her finish on the first goal," said Domville. "We've been playing better of late, even with several key players missing, and our teamwork and composure have really shown the last couple of weeks."

A nice combination play from Eaton to Lobdell, and then to Kirsten DiPierro for the shot, would send the Dragons to a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Warren had a couple more chances in the first half, but Amanda Castagnino just missed, hitting the post.

Both teams created chances in the second half, but the defenses too over.

Warren's senior defense of Paige Rimer, Katie Ressler, Reid Yarzabek, Lauren Butina and Sabrina Anderson "played extremely well today," said Domville.

In addition to having a part in both Warren goals, Domville said Eaton led the team in tackles and steals, which "can be attributed to how hard she plays in practice.

"The Lady Dragons will surely miss her dynamic presence on the field next year," said Domville.

Warren's junior varsity team fell, 5-0.
