FOOTBALL: Eagles fall to 1-6

October 13, 2012
The Times Observer

WATTSBURG - It's been a tough season so far for the Youngsville Eagles.

Playing without many of its regular starters, Youngsville dropped a 40-6 decision to the previously winless Seneca Bobcats Friday at Seneca Area High School.

"It's good for our future that the young guys are getting experience," said Youngsville coach Luke Alex. "I feel bad for the older guys that can't play their senior seasons, but that is the hand we were dealt."

Seneca jumped on the young Eagles early and never let up, not allowing a Younsgville score until Dan McLaughlin broke off a 33-yard run with 5:23 left in the game. McLaughlin racked up 60 yards on 11 carries to pace the Eagles rushing attack.

Before McLaughlin's score, the Bobcats scored 40 unanswered points and had built a 20-0 lead before halftime on the strength of two first-half touchdowns from standout Luke Muye.

The Eagles appeared to have something going early in the second half, driving into the red zone before fumbling away an opportunity to get on the scoreboard. The Youngsville fumble was scooped up by Seneca's Brad Elsworth who returned the ball 88 yards for a score to put Seneca on top, 26-0.
