Jr. high hoops

Youngsville defeated Tidioute, 35-19, in junior high girls basketball action Thursday afternoon at Tidioute Community Charter School.

Aspen Flinn led the Eagles with 12 points, Kathy Sveda had seven, and Autumn Hultberg six. The Bulldogs were led by Laken Krouse with 10 points, five from Hannah Divido, and four from Nettie Durstine.

Youth hockey
Warren Area Elementary Center students, from left, John Susz and Max Conklin are currently on the roster of the 03 AA Erie Lions Squirt Minor travel hockey team out of Erie. Susz is the goalie while Conklin plays center. In September, the team participated in the Hunter Faulkner Fall Face Off Tournament in Erie, finishing 4-0 and outscoring its competition, 33-0. Susz had two shutouts while Conklin contributed seven goals and four assists. In October, the Lions played in the North American Elite AA Invitational Tournament in Detroit, Mi. The 03 team actually played in the 02 (year of birth) division, but still finished with a 4-1 record during the event. Erie outscored its competition, 22-10, on its way to the tournament championship. Conklin finished with three goals and three assists while Susz was 2-1 in goal and earned a Most Valuable Player award in the finals. Erie has been invited to play in the largest hockey tournament in the United States — The Bauer World Invitational in Chicago, Ill., in November. The tournament invites only the top 20 AAA teams from each birth year to participate.

Fundraiser
The Youngsville junior high and varsity cross country teams will hold a fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Youngsville Dairy Queen. The Raise Dollars with Dinners theme will employ team runners who will be greeting customers and delivering orders to tables. A portion of the proceeds will go to the cross country team to help pay for race and invitational fees. Drive-thru items purchased will also help support the team. Among those runners participating in the event are, from left, Kayla Bubbenmoyer, Mallory Eastman, Kimmie Lindstrom, Tiffany Haney, Lydia Swartzbaugh, Nathen Carr, Collin Lehnen, Michael Stover and Samantha Tome.

Beaty's eighth-graders beat Eisenhower, 29-15, on Thursday at Beaty. For Eisenhower, Kirsten Baran had nine points. Alecia Straight four, and Joni Zortman two. For Beaty, Rachel Wilson had 10 points, Megan Wortman seven, Bailey Hoffman three, Maddie Loutzenhiser three, Rachel Cecco three, Haley Nelson two, and Miranda Jenkins one.

Beaty's seventh-graders edged Eisenhower, 20-19. For Eisenhower, Savannah McKown had eight points, Payton Mineweaser six, and Anna Carlton five. For Beaty, Lily Morse had six, Morgan Lupole four, Sierra Wees four, Abby Bouchard two, Logan Hammond two, and Jessie Sweigart two.

Turkey Trot

The Warren Explorer Post 312 and Northern Allegheny Outdoor Women's Association will host the Warren Downtown 5K Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, November 22. The 3.1-mile run/walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Warren County Courthouse, loop through the Downtown Warren business district and finish back at the Courthouse.

Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in various age divisions. In addition, awards will be given to the top three walkers.

The entry fee for the event is $15 and it must be received by November 18. All pre-registered participants will receive a long sleeve t-shirt.

Eisenhower dropped a 20-14 decision to Conneaut Area in junior high football competition Thursday at Eisenhower High School. The Knights' first score of the game came on a 45-yard touchdown run from John Hummel.

The second and final score came on a 30-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jaydon Hayes to Justin Perrin. The two-point conversion was run in by Ryan Schnarrs.

Perrin, Hummel and Schnarrs were the offensive standouts for the Knights while Hunter McNutt, Michael Ott and Jeremy Carlson were defensive standouts.

The Knights return to action Thursday, hosting Union City.
