Warren's Morgan Smith and Megan Smoulder will be the only two Warren golfers competing in Tuesday's District 10 Class AAA Girls Golf Tournament. The pair qualified earlier this season by finishing among the top eight averages during the Class AAA regular season.
The remaining Lady Dragons had one last opportunity to qualify for the tournament during Wednesday's District 10 qualifier.
The lowest four scores in Wednesday's field advanced to the D-10 Tournament and all four of those golfers represented Meadville. Those include the Bulldogs' Felicia Krasa, Kailey Maladay, Michaela Peruchini and Abby Moore. Krasa had the low score of the day with a 48 while Moore was the last to qualify with a 58.
That meant that all four Warren golfers narrowly missed out on moving on. The closest of those was Abby Cromwell who fell one shot short of Moore's score with a 59. Libby Hammond was next with a 60, Katelyn Hecei fired a 63 and Clancy Fyock finished with a 67.
"I had four very disappointed girls today that fought hard," said Warren coach Tom Smoulder. "Abby Cromwell just missed making the cut by one stroke and fired one of her best rounds. The other three girls along with Abby are all sophomores and plan on using this defeat as a positive to drive them to acheive districts next year. As for now, it's up to Morgan and Megan to advance Tuesday at districts."
