Warren girls tennis' run of strong opposition continued Monday with the Fairview Tigers visiting the Dragons at Betts Park.
Fairview was able to take control of each of the five matches, earning a 5-0 sweep to send Warren to 5-9 on the season with just Thursday's road match at General McLane remaining on the regular season schedule.
In singles play, Lauren Beach, Alexis Vavala and Cassie Johnson were all defeated in straight sets. Beach fell to Fairview's Lauren Petrella, 6-0, 6-0, Vavala lost to Amy Matczak, 6-1, 6-0 and Johnson was defeated by the Tigers' Sara Matczak, 6-2, 6-1.
"Alexis Vavala continues to be impressive," said Warren coach Norm Dziendziel. "Off the bench, she jumped into the number two singles position against a very tough opponent and played well."
Fairview finished the sweep in doubles play, handing the Warren duos of Shoshanna Ochocki and Morgan Genberg and Maggie Hansen and Kim Parroccini setbacks. Ochocki and Genberg were defeated, 6-2, 6-3 and Hansen and Parroccini fell, 6-0, 6-1.
"Warren continues to struggle winning key points in these big matches," said Warren assistant coach Jeff Bartsch. "Our girls played much better than the score indicated."
