Gerald Clair Coughlin, age 84, of Youngsville, PA, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2012. He was born in Fairview, PA on March 10, 1928, son of the late Carlyle D. and Mildred Baker Coughlin.
He spent 21 years in the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard combined, serving at the end of WWII and Korea, from 1946 to 1966. Gerald served on four ships, which were the U.S.S. Dashiell (DD659), U.S.S. J.R. Pierce (DD753), U.S.S. Spangenberg (DE223), and U.S.S. Henley (DD762). After retiring, he then went to work as a plumber for George Winston/Plumbers Local 47, Erie, PA.
Gerald is survived by his wife Fayth Thomas Wagner Coughlin; five sons, Kenneth, Carlyle, Kurt, and Michael, all of Erie, and David (Lupia), of Concord, NC; , one daughter Sharon Mikotowicz (Stan), of Jackson, TN; one sister, Shirley Walizer, of El Paso, TX; grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Shaffer Coughlin; two brothers, Donald and Leonard; and one sister, Jean Dill.
