Eisenhower High School's John Pascuzzi and Warren Area High School's Ellis Beardsley have run a long way recently. We're more certain of how far Beardsley has run. A senior out front of the Dragons girls cross country team, she's starting to hit her stride. She won a tri-meet with Fort LeBoeuf and Corry in Corry and also finished first with Youngsville and Seneca at Seneca. In between, she earned a medal at the Sharpsville Blue Devil Invitational by finishing the 3.1-mile race (32nd out of 220) in 21:23. Pascuzzi is an Athlete of the Week for the second straight week and has been running for tough yards. Two weeks ago, he had 19 carries. Last Friday, he carried the ball 41 times - 41! - for 250 yards, plus an interception and five tackles on defense, in the Knights' 26-25 last-minute Region 2 victory over Mercyhurst Prep. For their efforts, Pascuzzi and Beardsley are the Times Observer Athletes of the Week.
