ERIE - Warren's tennis team dropped its fifth straight contest Thursday, suffering a 4-1 loss at the hands of a stout McDowell squad.
The loss drops the Dragons to 5-8 on the season heading into Monday's final home match of the season against Fairview.
The Trojans were able to sweep singles competition, allowing the Dragons to win just four games in the process. Adrianna Jeffress topped Lauren Beach 6-0, 6-0, Larissa Chew handled Corie Eckman 6-1, 6-0 and Rachel Dougherty bested Cassie Johnson, 6-2, 6-1.
"Our singles girls really had their hands full today," said Warren coach Norm Dziendziel. "McDowell's top three players are very accomplished players. To Warren's credit, we pushed them as hard as we could. Our girls are real fighters and never quit."
In doubles play, Shoshanna Ochocki and Morgan Genberg dropped a heartbreaker at first doubles, losing 6-4, 6-7 (7-0), 6-3 to Diane Lee and Lita Zhang. Warren's lone win on the afternoon came from Kim Parroccini and Maggie Hansen at second doubles. The duo beat Elise Heiwlein and Jackie Naud, 6-2, 7-5.
"Our doubles teams played tought today," said Warren assistant coach Jeff Bartsch. "Kim and Maggie came up with a huge win and Shoshanna and Morgan lost a heartbreaker in a tough two and a half hour, three-set match. It was a great effort by both teams."
