Youth trap

Rain couldn't keep the shooters away during the second week of the Pine Grove Sportsmen's Club Youth Trap League. Top gun in Sunday's shoot was Michael Darling with a 49. Aaron Borger, Zach Bush, Nathen Onuffer and Jon Shelton were close behind with identical 48's. Kassie Hollabaugh was high lady with her 40.

The league's next shoot is scheduled for Sunday. Additional scores recorded on Sunday included; Michael Betts 35, Ross Betts 41, Jarrett Brown 32, Jeremy Carlson 31, Noah Carlson 40, Katie Donovan 39, Jack Donovan 40, Dominick Giannini 24, Jacob Gustafson 39, Ryan Haslett 37, Ashlee McClure 37, Michael McDunn 46, James Palmer 29, Jonathan Pollow 41, Justin Repke 16, Jake Russ 31, Nick Sliter 17, John Uplinger 36.

J.V. football

Sheffield's junior varsity football team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 33-12 victory over the Port Allegany Gators on Monday. Adam Higby again led the way, rushing for one touchdown and throwing for two additional scores. Higby finished the night 7-of-12 through the air for 113 yards.

One of Higby's scores was a 34-yard touchdown pass to Ricky Prosen and the other was a 28-yard strike to Mister Ussery. The Wolverines are back in action Monday, hosting Brockway.

Jr. high football

Beaty defeated Youngsville, 13-6, in seventh-grade football play Wednesday at War Memorial Field. Beaty started the scoring in the second quarter when quarterback Matt Leonard connected with Elliott Gross for a 50-yard touchdown pass. Seth Harrington added the extra point and Beaty led 7-0 at intermission. Beaty stretched the lead to 13-0 in the third period when Leonard hit Tyler Mahood with a 55-yard touchdown score.

The offensive line played a big role in opening holes for offensive standouts Ryder Bennett, Kohl Nosel and Justin See. Defensive standouts for the Dragons included Andrew Davidson, Ryan Munksgard, Bennett and Harrington.

Beaty returns to action Wednesday, visiting Sheffield.
