Tax bill for surgery center reduced

September 26, 2012

A recent settlement means the Pine Grove Ambulatory Surgical Center will be paying less in future property taxes.

It appealed a Warren County Assessment Office appraisal of $1,335,790 for purposes of property tax determination and has now reached an agreement with the county to reduce the rate.

According to information provided by Warren General Hospital, the site's original appraisal resulted in a tax assessment of approximately $95,000. At 23,000 square feet, the initial appraisal amounted to a tax rate of $4.13 per square foot.

Under the settlement, the Surgical Center's tax bill will be reduced to approximately $72,000. The new rate results in a tax rate of $3.13 per square foot.

Warren General Hospital invested in the development of the Surgical Center and remains a partner, but does not own the facility.

"It was a fair settlement," Warren County Chief Assessor Karen Beardsley said. "It was not a horrible blow."

Surgical Center Director James Fiscus could not be reached for comment.
