Tidioute grows larger than life twice a year.
There is the Saturday each summer for the past three when it pretends to be Remagen, Germany of nearly 70 years ago and the field of a pivotal battle during World War II.
The other is what has been going on for much longer: The 53rd Annual Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament, which begins this week.
When one thinks of fishing tournaments, there is simply an image of a whole lot of boats gathered in the early morning hours, which disappear and then return in the early evening when fish are counted and weighed and trophies awarded.
Tidioute's tournament is much more than simply catching and judging fish; it is a celebration of the whole town for a long weekend each September.
As picturesque as any small river town, Tidioute beckons for more than just a place to launch a boat. As always there will be a parade, great food, entertainment and that intangible quality that makes small towns a great place to spend a lazy afternoon.
The PSCFT is Tidioute's turn to shine as a place blessed by the Allegheny River and possessed of great community spirit.
It's the place to be this weekend.
