Parents of sixth graders invited to join WAEC PTO

September 24, 2012
The Times Observer

Beaty Warren Middle School sixth grade parents and teachers joined South Street Learning Center and Warren Area Elementary parents and faculty on Sept. 18. Since WAEC is housing the sixth grade this year due to renovations at Beaty, sixth grade parents and teachers are invited to participate in the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). Nicole Phillips and Shelly Ristau, co-presidents, introduced themselves, then other officers and principals of each school were introduced. After the meeting, Gary Lester of Family Services of Warren County gave a presentation on strategies for reducing stress.

The audience learned about the progress of school fundraisers. By holding fundraisers, the PTO raises money to provide field trips, some supplies for the schools, the yearbooks and other events like assemblies. PTO also provides daycare for children so parents are able to attend the meetings.

Volunteers are needed for many activities, for example: open house, Halloween parties, ice cream social, and helping organize fundraiser items when they are delivered.

Lions are honored
Lions Bob Scalise and Ken Holtz were presented the award of “Pennsylvania Fellow” by second vice district governor Lion Cathy Morse in recognition of their dedication to the efforts of the Warren Lions Club. The award is made possible by the club’s major donation to the Lions of Pennsylvania Foundation, which in turn finances grants through Lions Clubs of Pennsylvania for sight, hearing, and other humanitarian projects. Lions Scalise and Holtz have been very active in supporting the local Lions Club projects which benefit community service and aid programs to help those in need. These two Lions exemplify the Lions’ motto of “We Serve.” From left are Scalise, Morse and Holtz.

Students and parents can log into the WAEC website www.wcsdpa.org/warren-elementary.cfm to find out how to help the schools even more by clicking on the BoxTops for Education and TOPS grocery store icons or just go to following websites: www.boxtops4education.com/ and www.topsmarkets.com/education/ to help the schools.

Other fundraisers include Yankee Candles (SSELC), Oakbrook sales (WAEC), Zap-a-Snack sales (WAEC/BWMS). Delivery for the ordered items from fundraisers for WAEC will be in late October and should be picked up at the WAEC's open house on Oct. 30.
