J.V. football
Sheffield's junior varsity football team improved to 2-0 with a convincing 35-0 victory over Coudersport on Monday. Adam Higby rushed for three touchdowns on the day and added a 40-yard touchdown strike to Ricky Prosen to put Sheffield up 29-0 at halftime. A long second half touchdown run by Kenny Early concluded the scoring for the Wolverines. Defensively, Steve Gregerson, Prosen and Zack Burdett led the Sheffield attack.
Youth trap
Zach Bush was top gun in the opening week of the Pine Grove Sportsmen's Club's Youth Trap League on Sunday with a score of 49. Aaron Borger and Nathen Kupchella were close behind with 48's Ashlee McClure was high lady with her 42.
The next league shoot is scheduled for Sunday.

Whiffleball
The 4th Annual Casey Gray Memorial Whiffleball Tournament will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday at Werner Park in Russell. The double-elimination tournament costs $50 per five-person team. For more information or to donate, call 723-6297.
Jr. high football
Corry defeated Beaty, 26-21, in seventh-grade football play Wednesday at Corry Area High School. Corry jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the opening quarter, but Beaty's Matt Leonard scored on a one-yard run in the second and Seth Harrington added the extra point to make it 14-7. Corry would add a touchdown before halftime to go on top, 20-7.
The Beavers scored the lone touchdown in the third quarter to push the lead to 19 points, but Beaty responded with a pair of fourth-quarter scores. Both touchdowns came on one-yard runs by Leonard and Harrington successfully converted both kicks.
Elliott Gross led the Dragons offensively with 62 receiving yards and Ryder Bennett added 89 yards on the ground. Defensively, Gross and Ryan Munksgard had interceptions and Ben Thomas and Andrew Davidson were also standouts.
Beaty returns to action Wednesday, hosting Youngsville.
