There's really no other way to say it - Villa Maria is a very good tennis team.

Wednesday, the Victors proved once again why they are among the best in District 10 with a convincing 5-0 victory over the Warren Dragons at Betts Park.

Wednesday's match was a make-up from Tuesday's regularly scheduled contest.

Warren’s Cassie Johnson watches a shot sail toward a Villa Maria opponent during a girls tennis match Wednesday at Betts Park.

"Our hats go off to Villa today," said Warren coach Norm Dziendziel. "Their team is playing some great tennis."

The Dragons were unable to win a single game in singles play with all three Villa Maria singles players, winning 6-0, 6-0. Lauren Beach was defeated by Bernadette Prichard at first singles, Haley Geronimo downed Corie Eckman at second singles and Emily McGovern topped Cassie Johnson at third singles.

Things went slightly better for the Dragons in doubles play as the duos of Tyler Dziendziel and Morgan Genberg and Shoshanna Ochocki and Kim Parroccini played in competitive matches. Dziendziel and Genberg actually took their opponents - Kaity Taylor and Amanda Mason - to three sets before ultimately falling, 6-1, 5-7, 6-1.

Villa Maria's Abby Hallman and Turia Mayer completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Ochocki and Parroccini.

"Our girls played well today," said Warren assistant coach Jeff Bartsch. "Villa was just on a different level."

Warren (5-4) will try to get back on the winning track Thursday when it visits Fairview.
