GIRLS SOCCER: Lady Dragons shut out Jamestown

Ishman scores all 3 goals for Warren

September 17, 2012
The Times Observer

Warren's girls soccer team defeated visiting Jamestown (N.Y.), 3-0, in a non-region game Saturday at War Memorial Field.

All of Warren's goals came off the foot of junior Kaitlin Ishman, two via penalty kick.

"This is our best game to date," said Warren coach Bob Domville, whose Dragons are 2-4 overall. "We looked at some things and made some minor changes after a disappointing performance on Wednesday against Central. But we need to keep in mind this is just one game and we need to stay focused on giving our best effort each and every time we step on the field."

Warren scored its first goal on a penalty kick by Ishman, after she got behind the Jamestown defense and was taken down in the penalty box. Jamestown keeper Hannah Bensink made a valiant effort, getting her hand on the shot, but was just unable to keep it out.

Later in the first half, Jaimie Eaton would send Ishman in on goal again; this time she would beat both defender and goalkeeper with a well-placed shot, putting the Dragons up 2-0 at half time.

Jamestown would push to make the game interesting early in the second half, but the Warren defense held fast and kept a clean sheet.

Warren would put the game away later in the second half; Ishman would add her second PK when a warren player was fouled in the penalty area.

Domville praised the strong defensive play of Katie Ressler, Sabrina Anderson and Abby Funari.

Warren's J.V.'s suffered a 3-1 defeat after going up 1-0 on Summer Rosendahl's goal.

"We just need to keep from making mental mistakes in critical areas of the field," said Warren assistant coach John Lasher.

Jamestown would score two goals from free kicks.

Warren starts region play when it next hosts Corry at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
